The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure comedy film directed by Richard Donner, who produced with Harvey Bernhard. The screenplay was written by Chris Columbus from a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg. Konami would go on to make video game adaptations for the MSX and NES.

The story centers around the protagonist Mikey Walsh and his friends, who gather for a last meeting due to the imminent closure of their homes, only to find a secret treasure map belonging to famed pirate One-Eyed Willy. The kids then decide to follow the map in search of One-Eyed Willy's treasure, with which they plan to buy their homes back, though they are pursued by the Fratelli Family, who are also after the treasure.
