Iron Horse (アイアンホース Aian Hōsu?), also known in Japan as Dai Ressha Gōtō (大列車強盗? lit. "Large Train Robbery"), is a run-and-gun video game released in 1986 by Konami for arcade platforms. It was later ported to the Commodore 64 in 1987.
Gameplay[]
Iron Horse is a horizontally-scrolling game set in the Wild West in which the player takes on the role of a cowboy who must stop robbers from stealing a train. The cowboy can use either his fists, pistols or a whip, and must work his way along a moving train, killing enemies and collecting money bags along the way.
The action takes place either inside a moving train or on its rooftop, with ladders allowing players to move between the two. Player and enemy movements take place on three planes, and players can crouch to both avoid enemy fire and shoot crouching enemies.
The entire game takes place along the wagons of the same moving train. A number of wagons comprise each stage and the player must survive a gauntlet of enemies at the end of each one as a manner of boss fight, with the final confrontation taking place at the coal wagon and the locomotive.
Upon starting the game, the player can pick which weapon to use: fists have very short range but will push enemies back, causing them to hit other enemies; the whip has good range and can hit several enemies at once, and the pistol has the best range and can be fired while moving. In addition to the main weapons, sub-weapons can be collected by killing special, box-carrying enemies: lanterns create a fire wave on the ground, lassos tie up multiple enemies, and bombs kill all enemies on the screen.
